Reading Rep Theatre Launches Open Call to Discover Berkshire Acting Talent
Reading Rep Theatre is inviting professional actors from across Berkshire to audition for future productions as part of its ongoing commitment to championing local talent and creating opportunities for artists in the region.
In partnership with Jill Green Casting, Reading Rep Theatre is hosting an invited general open call to expand its casting books and connect with professional actors based within 20 miles of the theatre.
As Reading’s professional producing theatre, Reading Rep is passionate about nurturing creative talent on its doorstep. Through productions, artist development and community partnerships, the theatre is committed to ensuring local artists have access to high-quality professional opportunities without needing to leave the region.
The open call forms part of Reading Rep’s wider mission to strengthen Berkshire’s creative ecology and celebrate the wealth of artistic talent across the county.

Reading Rep has built a national reputation for producing bold, ambitious theatre from Reading. The company regularly co-produces with leading theatres including the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, Oxford Playhouse, Arcola Theatre and Jermyn Street Theatre, with productions touring regionally and nationally and many transferring to London.
Recent productions include The Last Five Years, starring Martha Kirby, Educating Rita, starring Madelyn Smedley and Julius D’Silva, and Private Lives, starring Amy Di Bartolomeo.
For actors, joining Reading Rep means working alongside some of the UK’s most respected theatre-makers while contributing to productions that reach audiences far beyond Berkshire.
Open Call Details
Audition Date: w/c 17 August
Location: Reading Rep Theatre, King’s Road, Reading, RG1 4LY
Application Deadline: Thursday 13 August 2026
Eligibility: Professional actors based within 20 miles of Reading Rep Theatre.
Audition Requirements
Applicants invited to audition will be allocated a 10–15 minute slot and should prepare one of the following:
Option A
- One classical monologue (maximum two minutes)
- One contemporary monologue (maximum two minutes)
Option B
- One monologue (classical or contemporary)
- One short song (a pianist will be provided; please bring clearly marked sheet music)
