Our Love Letter to Reading
Dear Reading,
From the moment we opened our doors, you’ve been our muse. Your streets hum with history – from the echoes of the Abbey Ruins to the bustling chatter of Broad Street – and every corner feels alive with stories waiting to be told.
You’ve been our heartbeat. Your streets are alive with the stories of the past and the promise of the future. We walk past the Abbey Ruins and imagine the voices that once filled those ancient walls. We pass the River Thames, glistening under the morning sun, and see the reflections of a town that is both steeped in history and constantly reinventing itself.
You’re not just buildings, roads, and shops — you’re the laughter echoing in Forbury Gardens on a summer’s afternoon, the comforting smell of fresh bread drifting from the market stalls, the warmth of a smile from someone you’ve never met. You’re the packed cafés on a Saturday morning, the quiet corners in our libraries, the vibrant conversations that spill out of restaurants late into the evening.
What makes you truly remarkable is your people. You are a community of makers, dreamers, and doers. Teachers inspiring the next generation. Artists colouring our world with creativity. Small business owners who pour their heart into every product, every service. Buskers who turn an ordinary walk into a soundtrack. Neighbours who check in, who show up, who care.
At Reading Rep, every story we tell is shaped by you. We see your resilience in our dramas, your humour in our comedies, your courage in our boldest productions. You’ve given us an audience who listens, who challenges, who feels deeply. You’ve welcomed us into your lives — and we are endlessly grateful.
Our theatre is a place where the world can meet Reading, and Reading can meet the world. Every ticket bought, every curtain call, every round of applause is a shared celebration of this town we love. We promise to keep reflecting your spirit on our stage — stories that are diverse, fearless, and undeniably yours.
So here’s to you, Reading — our home, our inspiration, our heart. Thank you for being the place where art and community collide in the most beautiful way. Thank you for your energy, your warmth, your belief in what we do.
We’re here because of you. We’ll keep telling your stories. And we’ll keep loving you, every step of the way.
With love and gratitude,
Reading Rep Theatre
