Actors in period costume perform a festive family scene from A Christmas Carol. Around a table filled with food, two women and a young boy smile and raise mugs in a toast, while Scrooge looks on in the background.

Casting Call: Could Your Child Be the Next Tiny Tim?

There’s nothing quite like A Christmas Carol at Reading Rep. Every year, families across Berkshire gather to watch Dickens’ timeless tale of redemption, hope, and festive cheer. It’s become a tradition – the warm glow of theatre lights, the magic of Scrooge’s transformation, and of course, the small but mighty voice of Tiny Tim reminding us all of the true meaning of Christmas.

This year, we’re doing something very special. We’re inviting local children aged 9-11 to step into Tiny Tim’s shoes (or Tiny Timmy’s!) and join our professional cast on stage. For three lucky young performers, this is a chance to become part of Reading’s festive tradition, share in the joy of live theatre, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Why This Matters

At Reading Rep, we believe theatre should belong to everyone – and that includes the next generation of actors. By casting locally, we’re celebrating the incredible young talent right here on our doorstep.

For parents and guardians, it’s an opportunity to see your child shine in a professional production, working alongside actors, directors, and creatives who will guide them every step of the way. For children, it’s a chance to grow in confidence, make new friends, and feel the thrill of hearing an audience applaud their performance.

This is more than a role – it’s an adventure.

The Magic of Tiny Tim

Tiny Tim is the heart of Dickens’ story. Though small in stature, his words – “God bless us, everyone!” – carry enormous weight, reminding us of the kindness and compassion at the centre of the Christmas spirit.

We’re looking for young actors who can capture that sense of hope, innocence, and joy. Whether your child is bursting with energy, quietly thoughtful, or just loves to perform, this could be their moment.
