What's On at Reading Rep Theatre?
Reading's Best-Kept Secret
Last week I saw "The Last Five Years" at Reading Rep Theatre. I was very impressed. This is a very professional production that could easily hold its own against shows in the West End. The small theatre is fantastic. A great front-of-house bar, friendly staff, free car parking and a quality auditorium. I highly recommend seeing something at this theatre if you haven't been before. I'm sure that you will want to return!

What makes us unusual
An Intimate 163-Seat Theatre
Unlike large commercial theatres or cinema multiplexes, our compact venue creates an atmosphere you simply can’t get elsewhere. You’re not just watching a performance – you’re part of it.
Professional Productions Created in Reading
We’re Reading’s only professional producing theatre, creating original productions from scratch rather than just hosting touring shows. It’s West End quality without the London journey, with recent co-productions alongside Theatre Royal Bath and The Barn Theatre.
A Theatre Built on Accessibility
Founded by a disabled practitioner to break down barriers, accessibility remains central to everything we do. 10% of all tickets are given away free to those who can’t afford them, and our award-winning ENGAGE programme works with over 10,000 individuals across Reading.
Rooted in Reading’s Community
We’re not a corporate entertainment venue – we’re Reading’s cultural hub, working in partnership with Reading Libraries, Reading Borough Council, Reading College, the University of Reading, and the NHS to ensure everyone can access the arts.
Diverse, Unexpected Programming
From contemporary drama to classic works, emerging playwrights to established voices, our programme consistently surprises. You’ll discover shows you’d never encounter in mainstream venues.
The Backstage Bar Experience
Our Backstage Bar isn’t just somewhere to grab a drink – it’s where audiences gather before shows, during intervals, and after performances to discuss what they’ve experienced. It’s theatre as a social, communal experience.
