Creative Writing Workshop for OUTPATIENT
OUTPATIENT FREE CREATIVE WORKSHOPS
Book your place on the workshop, and receive a FREE ticket for the matinee performance of OUTPATIENT on Saturday 19th October 3pm.
We are Mark Knightley and Harriet Madeley. Together we run Crowded Room: a company that specialises in creating theatre from real stories.
As part of our most recent project, OUTPATIENT, we are running free workshops on creating theatre from personal experience.
OUTPATIENT premiered at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2024 and won the Summerhall Lustrum Award for Unforgettable Theatre.
It’s a solo show that tells the story of Harriet’s diagnosis with the disease Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, which brought her face to face with her own mortality.
The Stage said: “Madeley is a terrific storyteller… full of hope despite its potentially gloomy subject, you leave ready to embrace the joys of each day.”
Harriet says: “Writing OUTPATIENT helped me to process and make sense of what I’d gone through. Performing it to other people felt like shedding a skin.”
These workshops will be designed with the double aim of equipping you with skills in theatre-making and helping you explore transformative life experiences.
At the start of the workshop, we’ll help you decide on the experience you’d like to explore. Over 3 hours, we’ll help you craft that experience into a dramatic monologue, looking at the principles of writing for theatre in the process. At the end, there will be the option of having your monologue filmed or kept in script form.
