Bicycle Boy
Written and Directed by Helen Eastman
Composition by Alex Silverman
From the writer of Alby the Penguin Saves Christmas comes a bicycle-powered musical, for children aged 6‐10 and their families, part of Reading Fringe Festival, performed at Station Hill.
Sam has 24 hours to clear out his grandad’s old bike workshop. He remembers grandad teaching him to ride and pretending to be his favourite superhero, Bicycle Boy. It seems grandad may have left Sam a present somewhere in the workshop, and some clues to find it. But there’s no power and Sam needs electricity to unlock the clues. Can you help him? If we can connect up enough bikes and pedal like mad we can generate enough power for Sam’s journey – and the show! Join us for a musical adventure, and be prepared to help pedal-power the performance!
Bicycle Boy is an interactive bicycle powered eco-musical for children and their families. It takes place outdoors, in a performance area created around the Bicycle Boy touring van… and it is genuinely powered by the audience on static bikes.
Helen Eastman (writer/director) and Alex Silverman (composer) developed the first site-specific incarnation of Bicycle Boy in 2013 as part of the Playhouse Plays Out series at Oxford Playhouse.
