Adult Class – Term 2

Our Adult Classes are built for anyone who’s at 6th form/college (16+) all the way through to those retired. They’re designed to allow you to pop in or sign up for the whole term. From voice to script analysis, from improvisation to blocking. These sessions will allow you to build your acting skills to ensure that you have the skills to develop and or keep your acting skills going. 

It’ll also be a space for actors of all ages to meet and grow as part of the network, where it might allow a company to form and develop work. 

Term two offers highly practical and industry focused workshops that develop confidence and ability as an actor. It will equip you with fundamental technical and stylistic skills, as well as the opportunity to access guidance and professional development to support you in your artistic career.

 

Week One, Preparing the Actor: Contemporary Performance. An introduction to contemporary performance techniques, drawing inspiration from leading contemporary playwrights and practitioners.

Week Two, Preparing the Actor: Contemporary Voice. Exploring how to prepare the voice (i.e. warmup techniques and vocal maintenance/awareness of body and voice) and how to workshop voice and song in the context of contemporary drama. This workshop will be very practical and physical, with the facilitator adapting to the needs and levels of the group.

Week Three, Preparing the Actor: Contemporary Movement and Dance. Exploring movement and dance in a contemporary context. An introduction on how to prepare the body (i.e. warmup techniques and physical maintenance/awareness of movement and styles) and how to workshop body and choreography. This workshop will be very practical and physical, with the facilitator adapting to the needs and levels of the group. 

Week Four, Industry Approach: Gecko Theatre Company. An introduction to Gecko Theatre Company exploring their unique style of movement and physical theatre, as well as an opportunity to gain an insight into the creative processes Gecko’s devising performers use when creating a show.

Week Five, Industry Approach: Frantic Assembly. An introduction to Frantic Assembly exploring devising exercises used in their shows to promote bold and brave creative decision making. 

Week Six, Industry Approach: Directing. An introduction to directorial approaches and how to workshop contemporary scenes. This workshop will include group work and equip the participants with methods and processes of considering scenes holistically as a director.

Week Seven, The Actor’s Tools: Music and Singing. An introduction on how to prepare the voice (i.e. warmup techniques and vocal maintenance as well as awareness of body and voice) and how to workshop song. This workshop will be very practical and physical, with the facilitator adapting to the needs and levels of the group.

Week Eight, Professional Development: Careers Advice & Headshots. An overview of professional development and guidance on preparing for the industry. Also a chance to discuss headshots and start thinking ahead to filming weeks. 

Week Nine, Professional Development: Showreel and Portfolio. Preparing for next week’s showreel taping session. Rehearse and prepare scenes which highlight actors strengths.

Week Ten, Professional Development: Showreel and Portfolio. Filming of scenes for participants to use for a showreel in their professional development.

 

Sessions will take place every week on Thursdays at 6 – 8.30pm

Sessions booked in advance are £10, or pay £12 on the door
